Hey Band,
First I want to remind you that this Monday there will be NO band meeting (Oct. 31). Be safe and remember to let the message of Christ dwell among you - be salt and light to the world. :)
Exercise: A lot of you were confused about the exercise. Remember back to the last one where we took Psalm 146 and first wrote out all 10 verses word for word (in the translation of your choice), and then rewrite it in your own words. For this exercise we are focusing only on verses 1 and 2. Do the same thing as the last time (write them word for word and then in your own words). Once you have done that write one page (either handwritten or typewritten) in response to those 2 verses. This response can be anything. It can be a prayer to God telling him how the verses made you feel, an explanation of what was most interesting about the verses and why, a song you write based on the verses. Just random thoughts about the verses. Really, it can be anything. As long as it takes up one page and it is in response to the verses. Have this done by the next band meeting, November 7. And if you have not gotten the original exercise done yet (writing and rewriting the entire psalm) have that finished by then as well.
Schedule: Here is the band schedule of who is playing for the rest of 2011. Things may change, but this is What is probable as things look now.

Alright, that is it for now. I want to thank you all for your efforts and dedication to God and His calling to have you be a part of the band. I know that there have been a few bumps in the road this year for a lot of us and I want you to know that I have every confidence in all of you that we can rise to the challenge God has placed before us to grow with Him and be leaders of worshiping Him. Along with the bumps have come amazing growth and understanding from many of you. I thank God that He has given me such incredible band members who have such hearts for Him. Those who are struggling, stay strong. There are good reasons for what is happening. Don't let things bring you down but use them to grow closer to the Lord. Those of you who are experiencing growth, be on guard. Those moments of growth are sometimes immediately followed by moments of difficulty. This does not mean you're doing anything wrong. Remember that God has a plan for all of us and as you grown closer to Him you will come to see that plan more and more. You are all loved. Thank you for following through with your commitment.

Wildside Band
Hey band,
As you should remember, tomorrow night is our annual costume party at Wildside, so there will be NO band meeting. Also, practice will be moved from starting at 4:30 to starting at 5:15. We will be playing some special music during the mingle time.
Thank you guys for staying up to date on what's going on and having such great attitudes about the band.

Refuge Band
Hey Band,
It has been quite a week. First, those of you who weren't at the meeting on Monday, you need to know that I'm giving everyone an extra week to complete the Psalm 146 exercise (see the blog I posted about this exercise). It must be completed by the next Band meeting on October 17. Thank you to everyone who has been coming to the meetings and completing the exercises. I hope that you have been looking at these exercises as opportunities to gow in your faith and your understanding of worship. Also, I want to thank Josh, Kaitlyn, Alison, and Lili for being understanding and willing to have things changed up on them so suddenly.
Next, the Worship Night. As you already know, we are all expected to be at every Worship Night. Our first one is this Friday. I understand if there are circumstances that will keep you from coming, but I need to know by tomorrow (Thursday) night at 5 pm whether you will be going or not (that means you tell me if you are going, and you tell me if you are not going). I know some of you have already talked to me. You guys are okay. If you will not be able to go, I need to know what is keeping you from worshipping with us.
While we are there I expect us all to be taking this night seriously. That means we will try our best to engage with God during the night. The response stations are to help facilitate this, and if you use them, use them appropriately. Be an example during everything that is going on. If you are not taking the night seriously, how can we expect students who are not in the band to take it seriously? Also, your attitude and demeanor shows me how seriously you take being a part of the band. This night is an amazing opportunity to connect with God. Use it as such. Do not waste this experience. Also, we are all expected to be there on time. Do not be late. The night begins at 7. Try to be there by 6:45.
The last thing I have for you guys is the Band meeting on October 31 will be cancelled, so enjoy the night off, but remember that we all committed ourselves to living a godly lifestyle.
Thank you, everyone, for serving God with all of your hearts. If you haven't noticed, there has been an incredible shift in the quality of worship we have been offering to God lately. I have seen, and others have seen, our hearts opening up more and more to allow the Holy Spirit to be moving through us and among us. It has been incredible for me to see all of you wrestling with new ideas, and stretching yourselves to new degrees, and I thank you all for allowing me to be a part of that.

This schedule, as always, is subject to change depending on what may occur throughout the month, but this is what is expected to happen.
REFUGE BAND
This part is for you. As you all should know by now, attendance of the Band meetings is a significant part of being in the band. If you are not attending the meetings, you are not acting as if you are a part of the Band. Again, I remind you that if you absolutely must miss a Band meeting you need to notify me (through text, phone call, email, Facebook, this blog, through Isaac, through somebody else, some sort of way) BEFORE the meeting starts at 5pm. These meetings are designed for us to grow closer to God and to each other, and to broaden our understanding of worship. It is not a punishment, but a blessing that you are expected to be present at all meetings.
Keeping that in mind, you all should have turned in our first Worship Exercise last night. If you failed to turn it in, you have been told of the consequences and will be held to them. Those of you who missed last night's meeting or need a reminder of what this week's Exercise is, here are the directions:
Look up Psalm 146. Rewrite, word for word, the entire psalm (it is only 10 verses) in whichever version of the Bible you feel most comfortable using. Please write at the top which version you used. Once you have handwritten the psalm word for word, you may either type or write out the psalm using your own words. This is what you feel the main points of the psalm are. I should be able to see each element of the original psalm in the psalm. Feel free to use multiple versions of the Bible (I suggest NIV, TNIV, ESV, NASB, NLT, and NET). I suggest that you copy the psalm in one version, then read the psalm in other versions and take notes of the differences before you rewrite it in your own words. This will give you a greater understanding of the intended meaning of the psalm, but no, it is not required that you do that. In short, you are required to:
1. Copy Psalm 146, word for word, handwritten (write down which version you use).
2. Rewrite the psalm in your own words (you may do this longhand or typewritten).
Thank you all for the effort you put into this band. You are all doing important work for God, and I am thoroughly appreciative for each and every one of you. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for us as we continue worshiping Him with all that we are.
